In 1991, art school students by the names of Patrik Arve and brothers Joakim & Klas Ahlund formed Skull, a grindcore band nestled deep in the Scandinavian Black Metal scene. Deviating from the typical stereotypes associated with these bleak, aggressive sounds, Skull changed their name to Teddybears, a name that stood out amongst the rest of the death crusted monikers and is notable for being the name of Phil Spector’s first band in the 1950′s. With the addition of electronic components around the early 2000′s, Teddybears have evolved from their aggressive roots into a genre bending, collaborative pop machine that has seen guest appearances from the likes of Iggy Pop, Cee Lo, Robyn, and the B52′s. The Teddybears are an infectious party monster programmed to be unstoppable. Oh, and did I mention they wear giant Teddybear mascot heads with laser eyes? Yeah, laser eyes.

Check Yo Ponytail is pleased to present the Teddybears on September 15th. Joining them will be Win Win, Physical Forms, and Teams. Tickets are available here. In the meantime, check out their latest EP No More Michael Jackson, over on their website.
