It is speculated that the elusive viral rapper known to the public as, Riff Raff, is one of two things; an eccentric performance artist that has thousands of devout followers convinced or a seasoned rapper that has captivated the mainstream rap audience through his unashamed, scattered brilliance. Whichever it is, Riff Raff is exactly that.

Let’s set one thing straight about Riff Raff. The former contestant on MTV’s, From G’s To Gentlemen, is not joking around in the slightest. While you may never get a straight answer from him, his pseudo-based mentality keeps him outrageously outgoing with his iced out presence and the now iconic cornrow/chinstrap combo. Few details have been made known as to who he was before his emergence into the spotlight and when you combine all that mystery with his delightful, yet puzzling personality, it all shapes up to provide a dynamic contrast to his often outlandish presence.

Musically, Riff Raff’s casual delivery is matched by an every expanding sample base that enables his tracks to possess the same enthusiasm as his personal life. Beats are heavy but minimal, leaving more space for Riff Raff’s erratic timbre. Just this year, Riff Raff signed an eight album deal with Mad Decent, also leading to the development of Three Loco, a power rap trio comprised of Andy Milonakis, Dirt Nasty, and Riff Raff himself. If that wasn’t enough, Riff Raff’s upholds his virality by releasing a new music video almost weekly it seems. Whether you love him or hate him, Riff Raff makes no apologies and is certainly more real than many give him credit. It’s hard to argue his existence when we are all having so much fun understanding it.

Riff Raff will be performing at Check Yo Ponytail on October 17th. Joining him will be Kitty Pryde, Lil’ Debbie, Fat Tony x Tom Cruz, and Brrrang A Dang. In the meantime, check out his latest video for, Rice Nation Vacation.
