Check Yo' Ponytail 2
POSTED ON Thursday November 21st, 2013

We’re very excited to announce that today we launch the Check Yo Ponytail Kickstarter for our feature length documentary Get Amongst It: The Story of the First Check Yo Ponytail Tour! This project has been in  the works for almost two years and now we need your help to bring it to completion. The movie documents the trials and successes of the first national CYP tour which brought Spank RockBig FreediaPictureplane, and The Death Set to audiences across the country. The film serves as a case study of what it takes to launch a DIY tour and build a brand in the current music industry landscape.

Kickstarter

We’ve set our Kickstarter goal at $35,000 and hope to surpass this in our month long campaign with your help. In return for your pledges, you’ll recieve awesome rewards that include awesome experiences and prizes such as a private DJ lesson with renowned producer Switch, Spank Rock and The Death Set performing LIVE at your house party,  free IHEARTCOMIX shows for one year, A-Trak’s Hat, and 12th Planet’s autographed shoes just to name a few. If you’ve been to our legendary flagship series Check Yo Ponytail 2, you understand that it’s “More Than A Show” but an experience synthesizing art, music, visual design and a visceral party vibe that is sensory stimulating. Watch the Get Amongst It teaser trailer and Kickstarter introduction by Franki Chan to understand the importance of this unique documentary.

We’ve had one hell of a year at Check Yo Ponytail. So many great shows with ridiculous memories and tons of friends both new and old. In January, we had Fool’s Gold takeover on my birthday, followed by Skrillex and friends the day after. In February, Com Truise headlined his first Check Yo Ponytail and Das Racist brought a rooster to the club. In March, we took on SXSW by throwing SUPER PARTY, our own radical festival with a bit of help from Mad Decent and Fool’s Gold. In April, James Ferraro brought a motorcycle on stage.

In June, we curated our own stage at Electric Forest in Michigan. In July, Big Freedia brought her Nola Bounce to LA for Independence Day; and later that month, the punk and rap crowds united for Trash Talk and Spaceghostpurrp.

August brought the Very Best and LA local, Tokimonsta to the Echoplex stage followed by some much needed rest in September. We got based in October with Riff Raff & Kitty Pryde, followed by our radical 2 Year Anniversary party in November with Andrew W.K., Icona Pop, and Diamond Rings, and a suprise from Skrillex.

Thanksgiving week brought the more vibed out side of Odd Future with The Internet; and as the holidays started to set in, we were graced by a candlelit performance from How to Dress Well. To top off the year on our final show, our good friends Trash Talk joined forces with Odd Future’s, Mellowhype, to give the punk and rap kids exactly what they wanted…one last chance to rage before the apocalypse.

Before we share some more of our favorite moments of 2012, all of us at CYP2 would like to thank each and every one of you that attended any one of our many shows throughout the year. You are the reason we are able to continue putting on shows that feature eccentric, inspiring, and sometimes legendary artists that we are fortunate enough to present. With that said, here are a few of our favorite moments from throughout the year.

As you may or may not have heard over the weekend, Check Yo Ponytail will be going big for Independence Day this year as we bring one of our favorite artists and CYP veterans out to get amongst it. On July 3rd, Check Yo Ponytail is proud to celebrate with the Queen Diva of Bounce, Big Freedia. It certainly goes without saying that there will be AZZ Everywhere as Freedia’s commanding presence will hype everyone to shake and bounce the night away, while her Divas show us all how to really shake things up. Joining her will be Zebra Katz and Ab Soto, with Pipes hosting the evenings festivities. Be sure to get your tickets in advance if you don’t want to miss out on all the booty shakin’ fun.

Tickets are available HERE.
